While there are restaurants around Honduras you’ll find familiar, the local traditional food is what you’ll want to be eating during your Roatán vacation. Some of the local favorites are baleadas, yuca con chicharron, and macheteadas. Baleadas is a popular dish made with a thick flour tortilla that has been folded in half and filled with mashed fried red beans. You can also add extra ingredients such as meat, cheese or avocado to your baleadas.

Yuca con chicharron, or yuca with pork, is a traditional Honduran dish. First, yuca (cassava) is placed on the bottom and is topped with a curtido pickled coleslaw or raw cabbage and a traditional tomato sauce. Lastly, the dish is topped with thick slices of pork.

Macheteadas is a Honduran breakfast dish that is often referred to as a fried pancake.

Take a Boat Tour

There are a variety of different boat tours that are available in Roatán. Some of the most popular tours are the glass bottom boat tours which allow passengers to view the ocean from glass windows formed at the bottom of the boat. You can also take a boat tour around the island which shows the lush tropical forests that run along the coastline.
